Laphroaig

Laphroaig 10 Year Old
Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Laphroaig 10yo is a full-bodied, smoky gem, with a residual sweetness and a hint of salt amidst the seaweedy, peaty characters before a long warming finish. A classic dram.

Laphroaig Quarter Cask
Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

A vibrant young Laphroaig whose maturation has been speeded up by ageing in Quarter Casks. This shows soft sweetness and a velvety feel when first tasted, then the intense peatiness so unique to Laphroaig comes bursting through. A really terrific whisky and great value.

I was pleased that this was the whisky this time, this is one of my favourite malts. It has a kind of medicinal taste that really sets it apart. I believe it is due to how near the distillery is to the sea; the sea spray affects the taste. Like Marmite, this seems to be one you either love or hate and I really love it. You have to roll this around your mouth to really appreciate the peaty earthy flavours. I give this one 10 out of 10.

Laphroaig is a very intense single malt, with a distinctive strong flavour. It is known as ‘liquid smoke’ and that’s an apt description due to it’s peaty taste and pungent aroma.
The Quarter Cask variety as the name suggests is aged in smaller casks, so enhancing the taste even further. This one ‘goes up to 11’ on the scale of intense flavours!
